Physical theories do not apply merely because they are mathematically coherent, empirically successful elsewhere, or capable of producing predictions. Their use in a particular domain presupposes conditions that must be identified and examined.
Applicability Diagnostics investigates those conditions before interpretation or explanatory transfer. It distinguishes what must hold for a description to apply, what the theory asserts, and what an empirical result licenses.
The programme describes current questions without presenting them as completed results. Claims about findings are linked only where a stable publication, DOI, or ISBN provides an external anchor.
L1 asks what must hold for a description to apply at all. L2 states what the theory asserts. L3 states what an empirical result licenses. Keeping the levels apart prevents a question belonging to one level from being answered with the resources of another.
A1 (Target) requires the target system, the observable and the mapping rule to be declared; without it no verdict can be assigned. A2 (Interface) asks whether the link between claim and data is direct or runs through intermediate models. A3 (Domain) asks whether a claim stays inside the validated regime or is extrapolated beyond it. A4 (Empirical basis) asks whether a verdict survives admissible variation of the data. A5 (Carrier structure) requires postulated entities to be supported by evidence that does not already presuppose the frame under audit. A6 (Constraints) counts the outcome-relevant modelling choices left undeclared; it demands their disclosure, not their elimination.
PASS records that a condition is satisfied, OPEN that it is not settled, LoA that the claim lies outside the licensed domain. Verdicts are question-relative and diagnostically neutral: they locate where a question is currently undecidable and assert nothing about how it will be resolved. A1–A6 is an audit schema rather than a score, and not every condition is decisive in every case.
S1–S7 record failure patterns that recur across otherwise unrelated cases. It is that recurrence, rather than any single application, which supports the general architecture — the argument the diagram traces on its right-hand edge.
